Mill-Turn CNC for Aerospace Hydraulic Fittings

Our mill-turn CNC lathes combine live tooling and sub-spindle capabilities, enabling complex hydraulic fittings to be fully machined in a single setup. By reducing secondary operations and multiple fixturings, single-setup processing improves dimensional consistency, minimizes cumulative positioning error, and shortens overall lead times.

For hydraulic fittings requiring tight concentricity across multiple diameters and precise geometric relationships, single-setup machining produces finished parts without secondary operations — improving geometric accuracy, shortening lead times, and reducing per-part cost at volume.

When a print calls for cross-holes, flats, or milled features, our CNC lathes complete those operations in one setup with a single datum reference, minimizing process variation and improving part-to-part repeatability.

Swiss-Type Turning: Process Overview

The Tsugami SS327-III-5AX is configured for small-diameter, complex components requiring precision tolerances. The guide bushing system supports the workpiece immediately adjacent to the cutting tool, minimizing deflection — a critical advantage for long, slender parts that exceed the practical limits of conventional turning.

Five-axis simultaneous machining, live tooling, and a programmable B-axis allow complete part production in a single cycle — including milling, cross-drilling, threading, and back-working — without secondary operations. Single-cycle completion improves dimensional consistency and reduces total cycle time.

Swiss-type turning is the primary process for small-diameter hydraulic fittings, fluid-system connectors, and precision components with complex geometry and demanding dimensional requirements.

Swiss-Type Advantages

  • Superior precision on small-diameter parts (up to 32 mm)
  • Reduced deflection via guide bushing support
  • Complete parts in one cycle — no secondary operations
  • 5-axis simultaneous capability for complex geometries
  • High-volume unattended production capability
  • Excellent surface finishes on long, slender workpieces
  • Live tooling for milling, drilling, and cross-work
  • B-axis for angular and off-center features

Materials We Machine

Stainless steel CNC turned threaded union fitting

Stainless Steel

Grades include 304, 316, 321, 15-5 PH, and 17-4 PH. Stainless steels are the primary material for aerospace hydraulic fittings, valve bodies, and fluid connectors where corrosion resistance and strength are required for flight-critical service.

Aluminum Alloys & Alloy Steels

Aluminum alloys (7075, 2024) are machined for weight-critical hydraulic fittings and aerospace structural components. 4130 chromoly steel is used for high-pressure hydraulic fittings and structural applications requiring elevated tensile strength.

12L14 free-machining steel precision turned threaded fitting

Free-Machining Steel

12L14 (ASTM A108) is used in high-volume production runs where surface finish and dimensional consistency are priorities. Applicable to hydraulic unions, bushings, and precision fluid connectors.
